How to Measure

Our blinds come in set stock sizes, and the size you order is the actual size of the blind — not the window opening. So you measure your opening, then pick the closest size using the simple rules below. It takes about two minutes per window. Because the size is your choice, all sales are final — though a 50%-price remake is available if you order the wrong size.

Before you start

  • Use a steel tape measure (not cloth or plastic).
  • Measure in inches, rounded to the nearest ⅛".
  • Measure every window separately — windows that look identical can differ by ¼" or more.
  • Always write Width first, then Height (W × H).

Step 1 — Choose your mount type

  • Inside mount (most popular): the blind sits inside the window frame for a clean, built-in look. You'll need at least 2" of flat depth inside the frame.
  • Outside mount: the blind mounts on the wall/frame above the window. Best for shallow frames, or to make a window look larger and block more light.

Step 2 — Measure your window opening

  • Width: measure the opening at the top, middle, and bottom. Note the narrowest number.
  • Height: measure the opening at the left, middle, and right. Note the tallest number.

Step 3 — Pick your blind size

Inside mount:

  1. Width: take your narrowest opening width and subtract ½", then choose the closest stock width. That ½" gap lets the blind sit and tilt freely inside the frame.
  2. Height: choose the closest stock height to your opening height. If you're between two sizes, size up — a little extra length simply stacks at the bottom.

Outside mount:

  1. Width: add about 1.5"–2" past each side of the opening (roughly +3"–4" total), then choose the closest stock width at or above that number, to overlap and block side light.
  2. Height: measure from where the headrail will mount (usually 2"–3" above the opening) down to where you want the blind to end, then choose the closest stock height at or above that number.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Forgetting the ½" inside-mount deduction — order the slightly smaller size, not your raw opening width.
  • Measuring over trim, cranks, or handles — note any obstructions and order around them.
  • Reusing one window's numbers for another.

If it doesn't fit. Because the size is your choice, all sales are final. If you order the wrong size, we'll remake it at 50% of the blind's price. Details on our Returns page.
